The team at HumanPerson Studio brought me on board in 2025 to film a catalogue of abstract visual effects for Nine Inch Nail’s Peel It Back Tour. The various graphics were projected onto a cube of transparent scrim sheets that surrounded the band during their performance. Special thanks to Ian and the HumanPerson team for allowing me to experiment with some new in-camera techniques and even though not all the techniques made it to the final show, it was still a great experience getting to try some new approaches.
BEHIND THE SCENES
All the visuals were filmed with a Blackmagic 6K camera, a 50mm macro lens and a 50mm Anamorphic lens. The practical effects included vibrating lycopodium powder with a speaker, spinning plastics on a drill, bouncing lasers off trays of water and rotating wire mesh sculptures with laser lighting. Programmable LED strips made by blinkin labs were also used for a wide array of animated lighting.
